Instruction

Boat instruction includes several aspects - I tailor my lessons to the specific needs of the boat owner. I teach proper etiquette so you will not stand out and will gain confidence in the boating skills you are wishing to improve on.

I have taught the following:

Sail and power boat handling which includes techniques on how to properly dock your boat, anchoring, picking up a mooring, heavy weather boating and safety and pratices, shorthanded sailing, safety procedures, man over board drills and recovery methods.

Navigation and how to use your electronics and other equipment. Rules of the road, navigation hazards in Southern California and Catalina Island. Navigation hazards in other various cruising grounds.

Catalina mooring protocol, Catalina anchoring protocol, Catalina weather monitoring and island storm preparation methods for Santa Ana wind conditions. Making a night passage to Catalina. How to monitor tanker traffic. What to do if you encounter foggy conditions.

I can provide basic sailing/sailboat racing techniques on upwind and downwind sail handling, spinnaker trim, as well as proper main and genoa sail trim instruction. I can also consult you on evaluating your sailboat, its sails and outfitting it for spinnaker sailing. If requested I could even sail with you on your first sailboat race.

ASA Sailing test preparation for world bareboat charter certification. I can help you pass your ASA sailing exam.

I am available 1/2 day hire, full day or
multiple day hire.
